When our mothers die we lose a person who rejoices in our accomplishments and agonizes in our struggles; the person who thinks we should win every race. woo every beau or belle, and succeed at every job; the person whose first urge is to protect, shelter, and guide us; the person who knows what is best for us, or thinks she does; the person who brags about us in our absence. In sum, we lose the person who is our biggest fan and our most ardent defender.

With all the praise, it is important to remember that mothers and their children form complicated relationships. Mothers are not perfect and neither are their children. Some mothers are confidants, others are critics. Some mothers maintain control even into their children's adulthood, and others foster a sense of independence early on. Whatever your relationship with your mother, it is important to acknowledge your feelings and grieve what has been lost.....

Mama Choling, I have known you since I was 16 and you have been but the most ideal,intellegent, practical and reasonable mother I've ever met. I am proud and honored to have met your family. You left a wonderful, beautiful and memorable legacy to your family that will be cherished by your children and children's children forever.

My dearest Mama,

My children and I are all deeply saddened and unbearably heartbroken over your leaving this earthy life. But in our hearts, we aren’t really losing you, Mama. We know you are happy where you are right now. You are at peace with our Maker. You fought your last breath – holding on for as long as you can. And we admire your strength and courage to hang on.

For all the love, nurturing and values you have instilled in us, rest assured we are going to treasure them in our hearts.

For all the good memories we shared, we are going to pass them down the line of generations.

So you see, Mama – we aren’t really losing you. We are giving you back to our dear Lord, our Maker.
